Boris’ announcement, what does it mean to Car Dealerships?
For many of us in the Automotive Retail Industry the long awaited announcement from the UK Prime Minister tonight should have seen the clear guidance allowing us all to dust off the showroom keys ready to open up tomorrow, however it’s all become a bit unclear at best and ambiguous at worst!
The IMDA’s interpretation of the PM’s announcement is that we should NOT open our dealerships tomorrow, instead wait for more clarification when it is discussed at Parliament tomorrow.
We fully understand that we all want to get back to selling cars however the reality is we are classed as ‘retail’ and therefore should wait for opening guidance along with shops.
We obviously empathise with all car dealers large and small but we have to comply with Government advice.
For clarity Online & Distance Sales are allowed to continue as is Home Delivery of the vehicles as long as this is carried out in a compliant Social Distancing manner.
