“The jobs on fire”

Is it really that good? We’re hearing mixed messages out there of activity and would love your thoughts, one thing for sure the ‘trade’ values are very. Very string to say the least but is this reflecting in the retail values? Are the consumers paying ‘more’ than they were maybe a few months back or is simply a case of making some profit rather than none with reduced margins?

Is stock really that short? Or simply fuelled up with ‘trade talk’ ?

All feedback appreciated.

  • The summer has been exceptional for sales. I’ve been pricing cars competitively in the hope that I get a lovely part exchange I can go again with. I’ve been using other peoples stock and the number of days they have had the vehicle in stock as a guide to where to price my cars. Over the last 3 to 4 weeks, if you’ve wanted stock out of the auction, then to maintain margin you will be retailing it for the same top price other dealers are asking. Some of them top price vehicles have been in stock 60 days and are still for sale…..that should be telling you something. There’s always a drop off in demand in the 4th quarter, Keep the cars turning, keep the prices keen, get them gone.

  • We have had a great summer, but I am concerned that CAP is catching up to retail customers at auctions pushing the trade value higher. The knock on effect may see CAP drop by the same amount in Q4 when demand naturally slows down, it could catch a few out.
